l know and apologise.l am new to this and what l meant to say was has anyone else done this and had their families harrassed by debt collectors and what happened to them?

As the previous responder noted, your post does not seem very interrogative.

These derogatory accounts will remain in your credit report for 7 years as per statue of limitations. However it may not stop the collection agencies or creditors to pursue you for years after that. If you are not in UK and your credit file does not show any new activity then the case will be dormant.

You may think u have left ur debts behind, but this may not be the case.

In the UK, debts becomes statute barred after 6 years in England (5 in Scotland) - although debts secured to property r longer. If however a County Court Judgement is granted against the debt, this prohibits a debt from becoming statute barred. Even CCJ is once they r 6 years old will need to be taken back to court for permission to enforce the debt. If this was because they did not bother to collect the debt for 6 years then the judge may rule against them, but if it was because they were unable to contact you, the judge may make the CCJ enforcable again.

If a debt is statute barred, it still exists, but is deemed unenforcable & as long as u notify any collection agency of this & the fact u do not intend to pay it, they should by law stop pursuing u for payment.
