l am trying to set up payment plans with several creditors. l am going into the army in a job that requires a secret clearance and they said as long as l set up payment plans with the companies that l could get it. The companies are refusing to give me verifaccation until the balances are paid in full. l dont have the money to pay them in full. What can l do???

dont pay collections. If they are 'unverifiable' they do not need to be paid.

Research DEBT VALIDATION in any search engine and investigate how it works, it is a powerful tool in dealing with your bad debts.

You may be able to use your cancelled check to show you are paying it.

tell them you will set up paymwent arrangements with them only if they will send written proof of it.

You might also try Consumer Credit Counseling. They can document it for them

Also if you are going on Active Duty you might want to look into the Soldiers and Sailors Relief act which limits the interest rate persons on active duty can be charged.

Put the arrangements into a letter, with cc notation of copies to u & to recruiter. Show the letter to the recruiter & ask if this will be sufficient. If so, send it to creditor. Note in the letter that acceptance of payment arrangements is the only obstacle u have to performing the payment plan. You can hope they will be reasonable, but u make be dealing with someone who has no stake in a minimum wage job, or a job that only pays on percentage. (If the person only has ur account for a limited time & is only paid a percentage of what u pay, they may indeed refuse to do any extra work for you.) l would also ask what the recruiter would find acceptable. That might be a copy of ur letter stampeed received & initialed by the recipient, or it might require more. Whatever that is, send it to the creditor as well.

As a precaution, ask for the creditor is supervisor - name, phone no. & address. Send them a copy too (noting it in the cc: list - u WANT the creditor to know.)

sounds to me like they are trying to play hard ball. l would buck the chain all the way up to the top of these collection agencies. l would make them agree to the payment plan, and get it in writing. with secret clearance, you might be ok as long as you didnt have a foreclosure or declare bankruptcy in the last 7 years. it really depends on what else you have on your record. if you have had either of those things, chances are it isnt happening.
