l was trying to sell my car and some comapny rang me about helping me sell my car. They said if l give them £99 they will use that to help people buy my car etc. They said once the car is sold l will get £90 back, meaning they used the other £9 as commision or something like that. l stupidly said yes as really wanted to sell my car quickly. l then paniced after the call to see that if l sell the car by other means, eg to my family etc do l still get my £90 back so l rang them to ask and they said yes l get my money back whatever. So l relaxed etc. l have now sold my car by other means and rang them up to tell them. They told me l would get a credit not instead of cash as l have not sold it through them. l was fuming as they did not say anything about credit note. They said they sent me an email about it, which l did not notice as was in my bulk section. Is there anything l can do? I am so angry. They have conned me. They did not even find one person to look at my car.
l mean what on earth am l going to do with a credit note? l do not even want a car at the moment and when l do l can find my own car.

would that have been MOTORSHOPUK by any chance? To be honest you will be very lucky to get your money back, they are scammers. contact trading standards, and if you paid it through your credit card try and get a refund through them.

Lesson for the future, never allow cold callers on the telephone to sell you anything.

Very doubtful u can do anything. The reason u would have gotten any funds back would have been because they either financed the sale or they were going to overcharge for the vehicle. If they made extra money on the sale, they can seem generous & send u a refund. But since they did not have anything to do with the sale, they get around their promise by issuing u a credit. Is it a scam - in a way, yes. But they probably disclosed it in the fine print so u have no legal recourse. Also, l would bet the credit has an expiration date so even if u went back to them later (to buy an over-priced vehicle from them) u would find it had evaporated.

You should probably just consider this as an expensive lesson & let it go. Do not mean u can not bad mouth them at every chance u get but stop caring about the loss & focus on the learning experience.

Sorry u got took like this. l hate buying nd selling cars. also, l have a rule never to sell to family. Cars r not like diamonds that appreciate but always have something go wrong with them & when they do, the tendency is to blame the person u got it from. It causes bad blood amongst relatives.

Always pay by credit card, never do deals down the phone. In future you also do not have to accept credit notes - they have to give you your money back.
