I've had a collections item that does not belong to me, from a hospital in a city I've never been to, so l disputed it over the phone and they said i'd get the results in 30 days. It is been over 30 days and l have not heard anything yet. What should l do?

Call them and check up on it. If you have a case number you may be able to handle it online.

It takes sometime to get it resolved. You just need to wait to get something in the mail from them, if you cant wait, call them. Only Experian can remove that item, but they have to do their investigation first.

Disputing over the phone rarely works.
You need to send a letter of verification to the collector.
Send it certified mail. Do not sign any document, or hand write the envelope. Google ''letter of verification'' for a sample letter to send.

Wait 30 days. If they do not respond, u must send a second letter of verification. Wait 15 days from the date they received it.
Keep documentation!
If they do not respond after 45 days, then call one of the credit bureaus & ask them what they need to remove it from ur file.
The collector will be required to remove it from all three credit bureaus.

Do not give up & do not back down.
Keep a paper trail.
