l had some problems with my AmEx green rewards card, and couldnt pay it off properly. l had a big balance, and was not paying it in full at the end of the month, they put a hold on me making any other charges.
every time l called, they said my credit would not be negatively affected because l was paying (when l could) and that once the balance was gone, id def have no problems.
is that true with credit?

also they said it could not do anything to my credit because l was not a certain amount of days past due.

like id make a payment of whatever l could one week, then 2 weeks later if l got another paycheck, id pay a little more.

i did pay off the balance completly

only way to find out is to get your credit reports, see where your numbers are, and what the credit card company reported..

Pull your credit report (free) at annualcreditreport.com and see. That is the only way you will know for sure.

If they have reported you as slow, give them a call and see if they will do something about it. Otherwise, put in a statement explaining what happened and how hard you worked to make it right.

This only a partial answer to ur questions. American Express could say u r late at any point in time. l am not sure what their reporting cycles r or what criteria u had to fall into for them to report u to the three credit agencies.

Your American Express card is not a credit card; it is what they call a charge card, meaning that the balance must be paid in full at the end of each month. That is why they put a hold on any further charges when u did not pay the account off on time. This is called a default & it can affect ur credit rating though it is hard to tell from the information u provide.
You paid the balance in full on an installment basis as u would with a credit card; but what do u mean when u say after the balance was gone you'd have no problems? Do u mean u could use ur AmEx card again, or does it mean they wo not issue a credit report since u paid the card off in an allowable time frame? Or does it mean both? Hard to say. l would also read the agreement u made with them when they issued u the card; this should all be explained there. The decision to issue a report to a credit bureau is made by the company to whom money is/was owed. From what u say it sounds like u operated within their guidelines: they have their money, so there should be no problem.
